THE LONGKAYAN CLAN
- - DAY ONE - -
On August 12, 2023, the gathering of the 'mbawataan o Longkayan', the Longkayan Clan, commenced with a vibrant parade. At 8 am, numerous cars belonging to the clan members converged at Talub, Tamparan. In a display of unity, everyone patiently waited until 10 am to ensure that all could participate and join the parade.
The procession kicked off from Talub and traveled through Bacolod, Dimayon, Pitakus Highway, Dilabayan, Central ES Buadidiayomangga, Zakba, Boriongan, and circled back to Talub, ultimately reaching the main venue—the grand gymnasium of the Barangay.
Once gathered in the gymnasium, the program officially commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an. This was followed by opening remarks, a warm welcome address, and captivating intermissions, all leading up to the lunch break.
Amidst the events, some went home to pray. Some stayed and pray nearby.
As the afternoon of day one unfolded, a range of games unfolded, catering to various age groups and diverse lineages. Around 3 pm, following the Ashaar prayer, some returned home to rest, preparing themselves for the 'Kapagonor' scheduled for the same evening, beginning at 9 pm after the I'sha prayer.
Before the performances commenced, several Longkayan Officers were elected. Among the positions filled were that of the President, three different Vice Presidents, the Treasurer, the Auditor, and the Secretary. The remaining positions within the clan's officials were to be chosen by these elected officers after the reunion.
I found myself thoroughly enjoying the 'kapag onor,' primarily due to my growing understanding of a few 'darangen' terms, which form a significant part of every 'Bayok' sang. Six different performers each delivered hour-long performances, turning the 'Kapag onor' into an all-night affair. We actually left the venue at the call of waktu Soboh Adhan.
- - DAY TWO - -
August 13, 2023, marked the second day of the event. While the official program began in the afternoon, some of us arrived as early as 10 am to engage in heartwarming conversations with relatives we hadn't seen in a while. Amidst these interactions, we found time to offer the Dhuhr prayer, shared a fulfilling lunch at the venue, and patiently waited for all to gather.
The afternoon portion mainly revolved around engaging raffle draws, adding an element of excitement to the proceedings. As the day progressed, we had the privilege of delving into the 'Salsilah' of various descendants, tracing our rich lineage, and understanding our heritage on a deeper level. Furthermore, our newly elected Clan President shared an inspiring message, uniting us all with a shared sense of purpose.
As the sun set, and the day came to a close, there was an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Alhamdulillah, gratitude filled our hearts as we reflected on the successful conclusion of the day's events.
Alhamdulillah.
